Peninsula Tour
Depart the city along the Atlantic Seaboard past the coastal suburbs of Sea
Point, Bantry Bay and Clifton and stop for a photo op of Table Mountain’s towering
Twelve Apostles. On past Bakoven and Llandudno, marked by shipwrecks, to the fishing
village of Hout Bay. Here, board a boat to view the Cape Fur Seal colony on Duiker
Island (weather permitting).
On return, head over the 600m heights of Chapman’s Peak Drive, one of the world’s
most spectacular passes, past the Cape’s longest beach near Noordhoek and the hamlets
of Kommetjie and Scarborough - with a chance to sight Southern Right Whales just
offshore from June to November!
Explore the rocky coastline and unique Fynbos vegetation, home to birds like African
Black Oystercatchers and Cape Sugarbirds and view other endemic fauna like Cape
Mountain Zebra, Bontebok and Baboon as we enter the Cape of Good Hope National Park.
Climb (or ride a funicular) to the famous Cape Point Lighthouse, to capture the
magical vistas of False Bay, and stop at the south westernmost point of Africa,
the fabled Cape of Good Hope.
After lunch at a coastal restaurant, visit Boulders Beach, for a close-up with a
colony of African Penguins, then head home through the naval village of Simonstown
and over Boyes Drive, taking in views of the fishing harbour at Kalk Bay and the
seaside havens of St James and Muizenberg.
Winelands
Depart the city to the Winelands region in the nearby Boland Mountains, for
a leisurely exploration of historic Wine Route towns, their liquid delights and
famed hospitality.
Estates visited will vary according to client preferences, but the tour generally
includes the region’s major wine producing areas, and there are chances aplenty
en route for tastings of high quality reds and whites as well as Cap Classiques
(South African “Champagnes”) in areas including Stellenbosch, Simonsberg, Paarl
and Franschhoek.
Lunch at one of the many classic restaurants in the area.
Natural and historic heritage abounds in this area and your tour may take in sights
like the Afrikaans Language Monument with its panoramic Boland views, the historic
estate of Boschendal with its beautifully preserved Cape Dutch buildings and priceless
period furniture, while idyllic Franschhoek, nestled in the valley where the French
Huguenots settled in 1688, is a delight for antique lovers and gastronomes (the
town boasts some world-famous eateries).
Stellenbosch, South Africa’s second-oldest town provides another glimpse of classic
17/18th Century Cape style with a chance to browse quaint Dorp Street, visit the
museum or explore the many galleries and shops of this university town.
Table Mountain
Depart the city for the Lower Cableway Station to board the revolving cable car,
for a 5-minute ride to the top of Table Mountain. 1036 meters above sea level, it
affords bird’s-eye views of both city and Peninsula as you explore its summit (weather
permitting).
Descend and head along the Atlantic Seaboard past Camps Bay and Llandudno, to the
fishing village of Hout Bay, then climb over Chapman’s Peak Drive, one of the world’s
most awe-inspiring passes, 600m above the ocean. In the Noordhoek Valley, take in
Long Beach and the coastal villages of Kommetjie and Scarborough, with the chance
to see Southern Right Whales (found in our waters between June and November).
After lunch at a popular coastal restaurant, enter the Cape of Good Hope National
Park for an off-road drive to untouched Olifants Bay and a chance to see a herd
of Bontebok antelope, one of the Park’s many endemic animal species, as well as
Cape Mountain Zebra, Ostrich and Baboon. Then continue to the tip of the Cape Peninsula
and Africa’s south westernmost point for a walk (or funicular ride) to the Cape
Point Lighthouse with its panoramic views of False Bay.
Return along the False Bay coast to Boulders Beach, for a close-up with a colony
of African Penguins, before heading home through the naval village of Simonstown
and over Boyes Drive, taking in views of the fishing harbour at Kalk Bay and the
seaside havens of St James and Muizenberg en route.
City, Table Mountain and Robben Island
Depart from Cape Town’s Victoria & Alfred Waterfront by ferry for a 25-minute
trip across Table Bay to Robben (Seal) Island.
This World Heritage Site and South Africa’s most revered national monument was a
prison for some 450 years - for convicts, slaves, exiled Eastern princes, lepers,
the insane and those punished for resisting oppressive rule - among them, Nelson
Mandela.
The tour, led by guides (some of whom were once inmates) includes a visit to the
Prison Block and the infamous Limestone Quarry, where prisoners once toiled, as
well as a drive around the island with it breathtaking views across the bay.
Return to the Victoria & Alfred Waterfront where you are met by our guide for
a trip along the picturesque Atlantic Seaboard, playground of wealthy Capetonians,
and a stop for lunch at a seafood restaurant along the way.
Continue past sunny Camps Bay over Kloof Nek to the Lower Cableway Station to board
the revolving cable car for a 5-minute ride to the top of Table Mountain. 1036 meters
above sea level, this sandstone massif offers staggering bird’s-eye views of the
city, the bay and the Peninsula (as far as Cape Point on a clear day) as you explore
its summit. (This may be done in reverse depending on weather conditions.)
Peninsula with Great White Shark Safari
Depart before daybreak for Simonstown harbour for a boat trip in search of the super
predator of the oceans, the Great White Shark with international shark experts,
Chris and Monique Fallows. (Subject to availability.)
The Fallows have studied Great Whites since 1989 and were the first to film the
now famous Great Whites of False Bay in the rare (and until-then, relatively-unseen)
act of “breaching” (launching themselves out of the water) in their pursuit of Cape
Fur Seals they hunt in this area.
Our search for Great Whites includes one of their typical haunts, Seal Island, home
to some 60 000 seals as well as a host of other sea bird species. The main focus
of the Safari is on natural interaction with the sharks from the boat, observing
natural predatory behaviour, with a tow using a fake cut-out carpet “seal” decoy
employed to encourage the sharks to “breach”.
Light lunch, snacks and soft drinks are served on board. Return to port around 2pm
for a visit to the nearby African Penguin Colony at Boulders Beach. A short trip
to Cape Point, the south westernmost point of the continent, wraps up our ocean
adventure.
Note: The best time to see Great Whites hunting is May to Sept., with sightings
least likely from Nov. to March. Safaris are dependant on weather and are at the
skipper’s discretion. A warm jacket and binoculars are strongly advised.
Hermanus
Depart the city towards the seaside towns of Strand and Gordon’s Bay, nestled
below the slopes of the Hottentots Holland Mountains, with magnificent views across
False Bay to Cape Point in the distance.
Continue along the spectacular Marine Drive overlooking this rocky coast, past the
white beaches of Koeël Bay and the villages of Rooiels, Pringle Bay and Betty’s
Bay. Stop at the Harold Porter Botanical Gardens, with its wealth of indigenous
Fynbos plants, including the rare Red Disa, for a mountain walk to the waterfall
at Disa Kloof.
Drive over the Bot River to the charming village of Hermanus, pausing in the picturesque
Hemel-en-Arde valley whose cool, maritime climate favours the growing of Pinot Noir,
Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay grapes, found at acclaimed wine estates like Bouchard
Finlayson, Hamilton Russell and Whalehaven.
Hermanus is known for its abundant sightings of Southern Right Whales, which come
in very close to shore to mate and calve (from June to November). There are excellent
vantage points from cliff paths that run from one end of the town to the other.
Lunch at a popular seafood restaurant, browse the town’s craft markets, then head
back to Cape Town via the verdant apple-growing regions of Grabouw and Elgin, with
a final stop on the spectacular Sir Lowry’s Mountain Pass for a panoramic view of
the Cape Peninsula.
Peninsula with Wale Watching Boat Trip
Depart the city for Simonstown to board the 32-foot catamaran, Whale Rider for a
2-hour boat trip and the chance of a personal encounter with False Bay’s Whales,
Dolphins and Great White Sharks.
Excellent sightings are possible as we may approach within 50 metres of these species
which, from June to November, principally include Southern Right Whales (that enter
Cape waters to mate and calve), with Humpback, Bryde, Minke and Sei Whales, Common
and Bottlenose Dolphins seen throughout the year.
Return to port for lunch at a seafood restaurant, then stop at the unique African
Penguin Colony at Boulders Beach. Continue down the coast into the Cape of Good
Hope National Park, where we might see various endemic Cape species like Ostrich,
Bontebok, Baboon and Cape Mountain Zebra. Walk or ride the funicular up to the famous
Cape Point Lighthouse to take in the magical vistas of False Bay from this, the
tip of the Peninsula and south westernmost point of Africa.
Leave the reserve, heading home past the beaches of Noordhoek and over Chapman’s
Peak Drive, one of the most spectacular coastal passes in the world, through the
fishing village of Hout Bay and along the beautiful Atlantic Seaboard.
City and Table Mountain
Depart the city for the Lower Cableway Station to board the revolving cable
car for a 5-minute ride to the top of Table Mountain. 1036 meters above sea level,
it affords bird’s-eye views of both city and Peninsula as you walk its summit (weather
permitting).
Return to the city via the old Cape Malay Quarter, for a walk through the Company
Gardens, the fresh produce gardens for ships and locals from the mid 17th Century
and today, home to the SA Museum, Cultural History Museum, Houses of Parliament,
National Gallery and St George’s Cathedral. Stroll through the city to Greenmarket
Square to browse African mementos at its bustling market stalls.
Drive to the Castle, the oldest building in South Africa with its collection of
Old Cape paintings and take in the Grand Parade where Nelson Mandela addressed the
nation on his release in 1990.
Move on to the District Six Museum to view a moving collection of stories, pictures
and memorabilia highlighting the colourful life of this suburb which now stands
empty, thanks to the destruction of homes and forced removal of residents during
the height of the Apartheid era.
Lunch at one of the city’s popular restaurants, before returning to your hotel.
Robben Island
Depart from Cape Town’s Victoria & Alfred Waterfront by ferry for a 25-minute
trip across Table Bay to Robben (Seal) Island.
This World Heritage Site and South Africa’s most revered national monument was a
prison for some 450 years - for convicts, slaves, exiled Eastern princes, lepers,
the insane and those punished for resisting oppressive rule.
Among its more famous inmates was 19th Century tribal chief, Makhanda, who lost
his life attempting to escape by boat across the Bay, and South Africa’s first democratic
president, Nelson Mandela, who spent 2 decades of his life here along with some
3000 other political detainees.
This stirring tour is led by guides (some of whom were once inmates) and includes
a visit to the Prison Block and the infamous Limestone Quarry, where prisoners toiled,
as well as a drive around the island with it breathtaking views across the bay.
Return by ferry to the Victoria & Alfred Waterfront, and enjoy spectacular views
of the city and Table Mountain (weather permitting).
Peninsula Tour
Depart the city along the picturesque Atlantic Seaboard past the fishing village
of Hout Bay. and head over the 600m heights of Chapman’s Peak Drive, one of the
world’s most spectacular passes.
Drive on past the Cape’s longest beach near Noordhoek and down this beautiful coast
(with a chance to sight Southern Right Whales just offshore from June to November).
Enter the Cape of Good Hope Nature Reserve, for a chance to see endemic animals
like Eland Cape Mountain Zebra and Baboon. At the tip of the Peninsula at Cape Point,
take the funicular to capture the magical vistas of False Bay at this, the south
westernmost point of Africa - legendary among seafarers.
Continue down the False Bay coast for a visit to Boulders Beach and a close-up with
a colony of African Penguins, then head back to the city around midday through the
naval village of Simonstown and over Boyes Drive, taking in views of the fishing
harbour at Kalk Bay and the seaside havens of St James and Muizenberg.
Shark Safari

Light lunch, snacks and soft drinks are served on board. Return to the city around
noon.
Constantia Winelands
Depart from Cape Town and head south along the Peninsula towards Constantia, where
we enjoy a tour of the famous Constantia Wine Ward.
The historic valley, with vineyards clinging to the eastern slopes of the Constantiaberg
mountainside is home to 17th Century Dutch governor, Simon van der Stel’s wine farm.
Its legendary dessert wines graced the tables of the European monarchy in the 18th
Century.
There are now seven cellars in this premier ward, and we will taste at some of these
estates, which continue the tradition of producing wines from classic European noble
varieties. The area is celebrated for Sauvignon Blancs, Semillons and Chardonnays,
from the Steenberg, Constantia Uitsig and Buitenverwachting estates.
Wonderful Merlots, Cabernet, Shiraz and red blends in classic Bordeaux styles are
also made at Groot Constantia, Klein Constantia and High Constantia, but the area’s
famed signature wine is still the exquisite Vin de Constance from Klein Constantia.
Wine tastings are tailored to the estates’ opening hours and guest’s wine preferences.
Stellenbosch Winelands
Depart the city and head towards the Boland area – home of the celebrated Cape
Winelands, with a first stop at the Zevenwacht Wine Estate to enjoy a cheese and
wine tasting.
Continue on along the picturesque Polkadraai Road, with its many farms and estates
set amidst breathtaking views of the Simonsberg, Stellenboschberg and Helderberg
Mountains.
The area is rightly famous for high quality dry white and red wines from noble grape
varieties. Award-winning wines are produced at many historic estates in the area,
some of which have homesteads dating back to the 17/18th centuries. We visit some
of these farms to taste their wines.
There’s also a visit to oak-lined Stellenbosch, South Africa’s second oldest town,
with a chance to explore the town’s beautiful examples of Cape Dutch architecture,
its university, shops and galleries.

and today, home to the SA Museum, Cultural History Museum, Houses of Parliament,
National Gallery and St George’s Cathedral.
Stroll through the city to Greenmarket Square to browse African mementos at its
bustling market stalls.
We enjoy “sundowners” (typical SA end-of-day drinks) of sparkling wine or soft drinks,
either on the summit of Table Mountain (weather dependant) or atop nearby Signal
Hill with its spectacular views across the city, as the sun sets over the Atlantic
Ocean.
Afternoon City, Table Mountain and Sunset
